McMaster Children’s Health Centre

Project Description

Design, construction and financing of a new state of the art children’s treatment centre in Hamilton, Ontario. The facility will incorporate a number of existing programs under one roof that include, autism spectrum disorder services, child mental health services, development pediatrics and rehabilitation, and prosthetics and orthotics. MCHC is part of Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster Children’s Hospital. The project delivery model (Design / Build / Finance) is based on Infrastructure Ontario’s P3 alternative financing and procurement platform.

VR Mechanical’s role on this project as part of the design-build team is to provide an experienced full service mechanical solution to the project. This includes; design/engineering assistance and integration, 2 dimensional CAD layout and multi-discipline interference detection, 3D modelling of mechanical plants, mechanical contract management, plumbing systems, HVAC systems, fire protection systems, vacuum systems, compressed air systems, dust collection systems, mechanical insulation, building automation systems and mechanical systems commissioning. Construction kicked off in July 2014 with commissioning of systems beginning in June 2015 and substantial completion scheduled for October 2015.
